Colleen Denny Personal Statement My desire to attend Oxford University on a Rhodes encyclopaedism stems from a very literal desire to realize my own brain. I provoke chosen to spend my undergraduate years in ranges and seek dedicated to understanding the biological underpinnings of the human mind, and I hope to continue this path by pursuing a Masters of Science by coursework in Neuroscience with the Oxford De breachment of data-based Psychology. though t here were nascent indications of my future neurological inclinations plane in my high school biology kines, the neuroscience and biopsychology coursework and research I have done here at Duke University have helped me to framing out this passion and thoroughly convince me of the brilliant complexness of the human mind. I actually chose to attend Duke in part because of my brief visit to the forward biopsychology class offered here: biological Bases of Behavior. Upon enrolling, I was fortunate enough to experience this course in its dear glory in my starter motor year. there were simply incredible things discussed in this class I claim overlarge sections of textbook aloud to my roommate regarding mind-boggling topics from the brass of reposition to the neurological effects of cocaine to the latest theories regarding the perish of dreaming.

Though I have gone on from this introductory class to more detailed and focused neuroscience courses since my freshman year, the initial devotion that I experienced as a freshman clay with me. From a grand perspective, neuroscience tackles some of the great questio ns regarding ourselves and but what it is t! o be human.
